Upstairs-Downstairs Tour Returns to Main Street this Friday

Upstairs-Downstairs Tour Returns to Main Street this Friday, November 2, 2018

Three Rivers, MI–The “Upstairs Downtown” Upstairs-Downstairs tour of downtown Three Rivers will take place on Main Street this Friday, November 2, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

The event, which is a fundraiser for the downtown revitalization program of the DDA and Main Street, features an opportunity to see parts of the downtown buildings that are normally not visible to the public. As of press time, this year’s tour includes three upstairs apartments above the historic storefronts, including two that have never been on the tour before. “The apartments are some of the best in Three Rivers, with historic hardwood floors, exposed brick, and views of the rivers, and they show the kind of development that we’re trying to encourage and that is continuing to happen in our downtown,” said Dave Vago, Executive Director of the DDA/Main Street program.

The tour also includes the 1920s-era rear section of the former Ford dealership and Shell hidden behind the newer façade of Lynn’s Garage. Tour participants will be able to make their first stop at 88 North Main Street, the tour’s starting location, where they can pick up a map and program. This building, formerly a bank, will feature an open house and sneak peek at the space for the future Three Rivers Public Library.

Tickets will be required for access to the behind-the-scenes tour locations, and ticket holders will be eligible to enter their ticket stubs into a prize drawing to be held at the end of the evening. Prizes will be contributed from a number of downtown businesses. Ticket prices are $10 in advance, through Thursday evening, and $15 the day of the event. Ticket sale locations include the Chamber of Commerce, Lowry’s Books, the Riviera Theatre, Kelsey Block Brewing Company, Harding’s Market, Main Street Café, Rooster’s Wing Shack, Peaceful Rivers Massage, and WLKM/WRCI Radio. Participants who buy their tickets through the radio station will be able to pay for them in advance on the WLKM/WRCI website, and then pick them up at the station.

Volunteers and staff from the Three Rivers DDA/Main Street program have been working with property owners to set up the program, which has always been a great success in the past. “It’s been a popular event and a good fundraiser,” says Danielle Moreland of the Rivera Theatre. According to event chair Tim Raakman, organizers “may add additional tour locations before the end of the week, depending on availability of suitably interesting properties.”

This event continues Downtown’s monthly First Fridays series. In addition to ticketed tour locations, drinking, dining, and retail businesses will stay open during the event, with many remaining open afterward. There will be live music on the street featuring Mark Higgins. While most First Fridays offer businesses and the public alike a chance to explore later hours and casual entertainment, some, like this Friday’s tour, feature special themes. Interested persons may visit a ticket sales location, contact the Three Rivers DDA/Main Street program at [email protected], or watch the events section of the Downtown Three Rivers page on Facebook for the latest details and developments on the Upstairs-Downstairs tour and the First Fridays series.
